Series of experiments on the formation of dislocation loops in quenched pure aluminum have been carried out under the condition in which voids are not formed, by quenching degassed aluminum in dry air. Although the size of dislocation loops becomes large when the formation of voids is surpressed, both the nucleation speed and the density of dislocation loops are not much affected by the simultaneous formation of voids. Previous conclusions on the nature of small vacancy clusters are reconsidered and confirmed.
