The residual resistance ratios (RRR) R_298k/R_4.2k of nominally 99.9999 % pure gold strips of 40 μm thickness was measured, and its value varied from 7900 to 2500. If the residual resistivity was size-corrected with the assumption of the complete diffuse scattering of electrons at the surface, one gets unbelievably large RRR's. These high RRR specimens were quenched rapidly from 700℃ and 600℃ into 10℃ water, and the quenched-in vacancy resistivity was measured. To obtain a reasonable size-corrected resistivity due to quenched-in vacancies for both quenching temperatures, one has to consider that the fraction p=0.45 of the electrons were scattere delastically at the surface. It was found that for the annealing of non-thermal equilibrium latticed efects the activation energy determined by the slope change method is not affected by the size correction.
