An Approximate Phase Shift Analysis of πN Scattering

An approximate method of phase shift analysis of πN scattering is proposed. Hiroshima-Nagoya-Osaka-KEK data of π^-p elastic scattering are analysed in terms of this method. It is shown that the currently available data of πN scattering can be well reproduced with a small modification of the Karlsruhe-Helshinki(KH) solution. The structures of nucleon resonances of mass higher than 2 GeV found in the KH solution are strengthened by the present analysis.
