Pion-Nucleon Interactions in Low Energy Region

Pion-nucleon interactions in low energy region (below 320 MeV in kinetic energy) are investigated on the basis of the one-particle-exchange model. The model is directly compared with the experimental date, i.e., differential cross sections and recoil nucleon polarizations, since phase shifts have not been uniquely determined. It is shown that these experimental data can be well reproduced by taking account of N (nucleon), Δ_<33>, N_<11>, N_<13>, ρ, f^0 and S (scalar meson) in the intermediate state. Some comments are given on the coupling constants which are determined so as to minimize chi-squared value (x^2). Our predicted phase shifts for s-, p- and d-waves are also compared with other authors'.
