Hadron Production at Forward Angles in Proton-Nucleus Collision at High Energy : Nuclear Physics

We study inclusive energy spectra of hadrons produced at forward angles in proton-nucleus collisions at high energy. Pion spectra at large x_F are described in terms of a standard single scattering model with realistic high momentum components of nuclear Fermi motion taken into account. Proton spectra at forward angles are also calculated by evaluating several Feynman diagrams. Besides the quasi-elastic scattering, pion production diagrams with Δ and nucleon poles can account for a major part of the proton spectra. Further, it is found that the high momentum components of the Fermi motion play an important role for removing the discrepancy between theory and experiment in the dip anomaly region.
