The theory of complex angular momentum for nucleon-nucleus scattering is developed in relation to the R-matrix theory of nuclear reactions. As a particular example, the BreitWigner multi-level formula in terms of Regge parameters is discussed in a suitable form for practical analysis. The theory is applied to the s^- and p-wave elastic proton and neutron scatterings by ^<14>C and ^<14>N through the ^<15>N compound states. The complication arising near the resonance energy reflects in the Regge trajectory which seems to be a convenient tool for analysing the properties of the nuclei. The trajectory is represented by a curve on a unit circle in our representation so that the relative strength of the nucleon-nucleus interaction can be read from the residue function for the various reactions. A Chew-Frautschi plot for the proton trajectory obtained from spin 1/2 and 5/2 states suggests that the nucleon-nucleus potential for the overall range of energies may be of the square-well type in a global sense, but the Regge trajectory near the resonance region is much more complicated and is possibly a combination of Yukawa, square-well and/or of some other potentials.
