Meson-Baryon Backward Scattering and Resonance Correlation

Backward meson-baryon scattering is studied by taking the urbaryon rearrangement diagram (URD) into consideration. Analysis of πN backward scattering at 6 GeV/c shows that the resonant part of the helicity amplitude, which corresponds to the Z type URD, behaves as F^Z_<Δλ>∝iH^<(1)>_<1-Δλ>(b_0√<-u'>) with b_0≃5/GeV similarly to in the forward case. Considering that many s-channel resonances with different parities and signatures cancel out with one another leading to a rapid decrease with s in the backward region, it may be rather surprising that the Hankel type structure is observed. In other words, this suggests again importance of the peripheral interaction to form correlated resonances. The nonresonant amplitude corresponding to the X type URD is real and smooth. It is found that natural parity baryon resonances are much more suppressed than unnatural ones, as compared with the prediction of the SU(6) models. A possible scheme of SU(6)breaking is discussed.
