The aim of this paper was to describe the results of a qualitative study which explored the process of 'Requesting' by nurses to elderly peoples with dementia. The data were collected using semi-structured interviews with five nurses of health service facilities for elderly in Osaka. The results indicated that four categories, in the process of 'Requesting' to elderly with dementia, can be madeclear. Judgment of request; Contents of requesting, Means of request; and Effectiveness of request Sub-categories of Judgment of request were as follows: 1) Judgment of people, 2) judgment of choice of contents. Contents of request were categories: 1) housework, 2) taking care of other elderly peoples, 3) taking a leadership role. Means of request included: 1) direct requests, 2) indirect requests. Effect of request was categorized as: 1) effects from viewpoint of the nurses, 2) effects from viewpoint of elderly persons with dementia, 3) effects involving of both parties, 4) outcomes in cases where requests were not made.
