"Rituals" are a complicated matter in archaeology to deal with. However, it is indispensable for human culture. Particularly after the establishment of a agricultural society, the route to reach the formation of a state was the starting point (for the society) to develop into a political world. A concrete "rituals" needs a festival day, place and style that take different forms according to the characteristics of the protocol used in the rituals. Moreover, not only a ritual for farming, but also rituals for other occupations were probably combined. As above, rituals in the Yayoi period were diverse. Rituals until the middle of the Yayoi period were basically highly open to public, and it was possible for community members to participate in them. But such rituals changed in the late Yayoi period, and became the ones with the characteristics of strong secrecy. Soon the establishment of 首長祭祀 (rituals by chief) was seen. Yet the rituals in communities were not lost. Therefore, the establishment of 首長祭祀 (rituals by chief) was not simply the result of the change from community rituals. It should rather be recognized as the clarification of an assigned role of each rituals.
