Futatsuike site in Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture is a settlement during the late Yayoi period. Yayoi Pottery excavated in Futatsuike site has been so far judged to be composed of Kugahara Type Pottery and Yayoicho Type Pottery. However, having examined excavated potteries in detail, it is now clarified that Futatsuike Pottery is a group of pottery having different characters from Kugahara Type Pottery and Yayoi-cho Type Pottery. Concretely speaking, Futatsuike Pottery can be shown as a combination of adoption of geometric pattern in crocks and jars with a base made through scraping to arrange form. This combination can be traced to Kugahara Type Pottery during the first half of late Yayoi period. In fact, the basin of the River Tsurumi where Futatsuike site existed is located within the distribution range of Kugahara Type Pottery and potteries excavated in Futatsuike site is a group of pottery follow to Kugahara Type Pottery. Therefore, we would like to establish "Futatsuike Type Pottery", putting potteries excavated in Futatsuike site as a mark. Through this establishment we expect to grasp again potteries during late Yayoi period in southern Kanto area whose study is presently in a stagnate condition as a group of Type Pottery.
