The fifth national technical college programming contest was held in Toyama City from October 8 to October 9. This year, in addition to two usual sections, (1) problem section, (2)free section, a new section called 'game section' was set up. And our school decided to challenge the game section in the final competition. The way of the game section is as follows. First we make a system which combines GPS (Global Positioning System) that is lent by the executive committee with personal computer. Next we compete for the accuracy in measuring the designated area using the above system. GPS is a device that enables you to know where you are now by receiving radio waves from a man-made satellite. The key to the success for the competition depends on how you can reduce the error GPS has with software for the accurate measurement. This programming education is defined as the education aiming at the programming activity-that is, …you discover a problem and create a system that can solve it, and then furthermore you discover a new problem using the created system. -that surpasses the traditional programming language exercises. We'll introduce our example called "experience of discovery and solution" that was done through participating in the national technical college programming contest as a case study for this programming education.
