Now the large bridge of the Akashi Strait is about to appear before us as a reality with dreams towards the 21st century. Japan has been able to reach the first-class level of construction technique for the large bridge in the world. So, naturally it seems that many people will be surprised and say, "Why are wooden bridges necessary in Japan now?" In this paper, I will study the following things : what is the main cause for recurrence of wooden bridges, the status quo of them, their problems to be solved, the prospects for the new era of wooden bridges from now on, and so on.
