• Now the large bridge of the Akashi Strait is about to appear before us as a reality with dreams towards the 2lst century. Japan has been able to reach the first-class level of construction technique for the large bridge in the world. So, naturally it seems that many people will be surprised and say. "Why are wooden bridges necessary in Japan now?" The aim of this paper is to study the structural characteristic of the HANEGI by producing the structural model of the SARU-HASHI and making an experiment and an analysis on the structure of the HANEGI, together with the research on the historical background and the building process of the SARU-HASHI.
