The purpose of this study is to experimentally verify the results of the simulation of active seat suspension of a truck reported in a previous paper [Proc. School of Eng., Tokai Univ., XXIII, 57]. The laboratory-scale test equipment used to simulate the actual seat suspension, with a linear motor as an actuator, was manufactured. In order to perform digital control of the suspension, the discrete time sliding mode control theory was applied to the active control system. The suspension system was subjected to vibrations generated by electromagnetic excitation equipment. The experiment in which the optimal control theory was applied was also carried out in order to confirm the effectiveness of sliding mode control. In addition, the consideration of the robustness of the control system, for the case in which noise was generated with the control signal, was carried out.
