Consideration on the Influence of Permanent Magnets in Elasticity Vibration of a Thin Steel Plate

In electromagnetic levitation of a thin steel plate using electromagnets and permanent magnets, the elasticity vibaration characteristics of the thin steel plate can be changed by the magnets. In this paper, the influence of the permanent magnets on the stiffness and the damping factor of the thin steel plate is discussed. In order to clarify the first-mode vibration of the steel plate which occurs most conspicuously, the free vibration of the steel plate on knife edges arranged at the position of the nodes of the first mode is investigated experimentally and theoretically. It is found that the permanent magnets increase both the period of elasticity vibration and the damping factor and work effectively for the electromagnetic levitation.
