Simulation Study on Active Suspension of Truck Seat Using H∞ Control Theory

The driver's seat of a heavy duty truck is usually supported by a spring-damper assembly on the cabin floor. Although the floor vibration is effectively isolated by this suspension, the vibration component around 2 to 3 Hz is not so effectively isolated. To improve the riding comfort of the driver, the transmissibility in the low frequency region should be decreased. In this study, a DC servomoter and a ballscrew control mechanism, which is installed in parallel with the spring-damper assembly, is proposed. A control system is designed by adopting the H^∞ control theory using weighting on the absolute acceleration of the driver's hip point and the relative displacement of the suspension. The isolation effects of this active seat control was investigated by numerical simulations. As a result, satisfactory data were obtained.
