This paper theoretically studies the mode characteristics and power flow of a thin cylindrical shell structure, which is a model of aircraft or liquid container. The mode characteristics of the thin cylindrical shell in first studied with the parameters of mode number and modal density, and it is derived that the frequency characteristics of modal density has a peak, which is greatly dependent on the dimensions, namely diameter, length, and thickness, of the thin cylindrical shell. Next, the mode characteristics of the internal sound space is studied, and it is clarified that the frequency characteristics has many peaks over higher frequency range. Finally, the power flow of the thin cylindrical shell structure is studied, and it is derived from comparison of the radiation efficiency and modal density of the thin cylindrical shell that a large power flow will occur from the thin cylindrical shell to the internal sound space near the peak frequency of the modal density.
