マメ科植物は、昼に葉を開き、夜になると葉を閉じて「眠る」という、概日性リズムに従った運動(就眠運動)を行う。この現象は、植物の葉を開かせる覚醒物質(Leaf-Opening Fac-tor; LOF)と、葉を閉じさせる就眠物質(Leaf-Closing Factor; LCF)という逆の活性を示す二種の内因性生理活物質によってコントロールされている。著者らは、就眠運動のメカニズム解明のために、これらの生理活性物質を利用したケミカルバイオロジー研究を行ってきた。今回は、独自の方法論による、これらの標的タンパク質の検出・同定について述べる。
