Crystal Growth and Luminescence Properties of Pr-Doped LiYF4 and LiCaAlF6

Pr-doped LiYF4 (YLF) and LiCaAlF6 (LiCAF) single crystals were grown by the micro-pulling-down (μ-PD) method. The crystals were transparent, 2.0 mm in diameter, and 40–50 mm in length. Neither visible inclusions nor cracks were observed. Transmittance, reflectance, and X-ray-excited emission spectra of Pr-doped YLF and LiCAF were measured. For both crystals, approximately 80% transmittance and 3% reflectance were achieved at visible wavelengths. Emission peaks due to Pr3+ 5d–4f transitions at approximately 220–250, 270, 330, and 410 nm were observed for both crystals.
