Energy-gap-induced super-resolution (EG-SR) read-only-memory (ROM) discs have already been reported as high-density media. However, the read power of EG-SR ROM discs is higher than that of conventional (non-super-resolution) ROM discs. In this paper, we suggest that a germanium (Ge) reflective film can improve the read power sensitivity of the EG-SR effect. Two materials, silicon (Si) and Ge, were compared as reflective films. Si was previously reported to be suitable for high read power sensitivity. For an EG-SR ROM disc with a Ge reflective film, the reflectance change with temperature was larger and the read power sensitivity was higher than those for an EG-SR ROM disc with a Si film.
