Piezoelectric Properties of Sb-, Li-, and Mn-substituted Pb(ZrxTi1-x)O3–Pb(Zn1/3Nb2/3)O3–Pb(Ni1/3Nb2/3)O3 Ceramics for High-Power Applications

We developed piezoelectric ceramics suitable for high-power piezoelectric transformer applications. Sb, Li, and Mn were substituted in the 0.8Pb(Zr0.5Ti0.5)O3–0.16Pb(Zn1/3Nb2/3)O3–0.04Pb(Ni1/3Nb2/3)O3 ceramics. All these substituents changed the structure of a tetragonal composition to cubical phase. The Sb and Li substitutions resulted in increases in $k_{ p}$ and $d_{33}$, whereas Mn substitution increased $Q_{\text{m}}$. The composition 0.8Pb(ZrxTi1-x)–0.2Pb[($1 - c$){($1 - b$)(Zn0.8Ni0.2)1/3(Nb1-aSba)2/3–$b$(Li1/4(Nb1-aSba)3/4)}–$c$(Mn1/3(Nb1-aSba)2/3)]O3 ($a=0.1$, $b=0.3$, $c=0.3$, and $x=0.5$) showed $k_{ p}=0.56$, $Q_{\text{m}}=1951$ (planar mode), $d_{33}=239$ pC/N, $\varepsilon_{3}^{\text{T}}/\varepsilon_{0}=739$ and a maximum vibration velocity = 0.6 m/s in the 31 mode. By adjusting Zr/Ti ratio, the structure of the ceramics reverted to the morphotropic phase boundary and showed $k_{ p}=0.57$, $Q_{\text{m}}=1502$ (planar mode), $d_{33}=330$ pC/N, $\varepsilon_{3}^{\text{T}}/\varepsilon_{0}=1653$ and a maximum 31 mode vibration velocity = 0.58 m/s when Zr/Ti = 0.48/0.52.
