• The reaction of <I>N</I>-benzyl-, <I>N</I>-diphenylmethyl-, or <I>N</I>-(1-phenylpropyl)-α-methoxycarbonylmethanimine <I>N</I>-oxide newly prepared with acrylaldehyde in benzene, followed by hydrogenolysis over palladium hydroxide and by acid hydrolysis, gave 4-hydroxyprolines.
