The synthesis of β- and α-rotunols, two sesquiterpene alcohols isolated from nutgrass (<I>Cyperus rotundus</I> Linne), is described. This synthetic study also involves revision of the structure of a stress metabolite "1-keto-α-cyperone" isolated from Burley and flue-cured tobaccos (<I>Nicotiana tabacum</I> L.).
