The reaction of <I>p</I>-substituted <I>N</I>-sulfinylanilines with styrene oxide in the presence of tetraethylammonium bromide gave the corresponding 1,2,4,5- and 1,2,4,6-tetraarylpiperazines, whose configurations were established on the basis of the NMR spectral studies. On the other hand, while a similar reaction of <I>p</I>-substituted <I>N</I>-sulfinylphenylhydrazines with the oxide in benzene gave the corresponding diaryl disulfide, diaryl sulfide, and <I>p</I>-substituted biphenyl, the reaction in acetonitrile did not give the biphenyl. The pathways for these reactions are suggested.
