The normal coordinate treatment of optically active lattice vibrations of ammonium chloride and ammonium chloride-<I>d</I>4 at low temperature was made in order to elucidate the nature of the vibrations and obtain force constants in the potential in the crystals by the method of least squares. Using the constants, the optically active lattice vibrations of a crystal model for ammonium chloride and ammonium chloride-<I>d</I>4 at room temperature were calculated. The far-infrared spectra obtained and the Raman and infrared spectra in literature were discussed.
