• Photolysis of diphenyltin polymer, (Ph<SUB>2</SUB>Sn)<I><SUB>m</SUB></I>, afforded diphenylstannylene, Ph<SUB>2</SUB>Sn:, which was captured by alkyl halides, R′X, to give the insertion products, Ph<SUB>2</SUB>R′SnX. The reactivity of Ph<SUB>2</SUB>Sn: was found to be lower than that of dibutylstannylene, Bu<SUB>2</SUB>Sn:.
