Hydrated rare earth carbonate single crystals were obtained in metasilicate gels. The formulas of the crystals were determined to be (RE)<SUB>2</SUB>(CO<SUB>3</SUB>)<SUB>3</SUB>·8H<SUB>2</SUB>O (RE=La, Pr) and (RE)<SUB>2</SUB>(CO<SUB>3</SUB>)<SUB>3</SUB>·4.54H<SUB>2</SUB>O (RE=Nd), and the crystal structures were determined to be of the lanthanit type.
