Postoperative Studies on Maxillary Cysts in our Clinic

A clinical study was made of postoperative maxillary cysts treated over the past 27 years.1) In this clinical review of 101 cases, the male/female ratio, side affected and duration were almost the same as those reported elsewhere. The duration of recurrent cysts appeared to be shorter than that of the initial cyst.2) The most frequent subjective symptom was pain or swelling of the paranasal area (about 93%), followed by oral pain or swelling (about 33%). It is interesting that 24% of all cases visited to our clinic after dentistry.3) Two methods of surgery were used. a) complete removal of the cyst; b) forming a lower nasal meatus between the cyst and the nasal cavity. When the cyst was small, the former method tended to be chosen. Recently, however, whether the cyst is large or small, the latter method is often used.
