Creation of an Automobile Recycling Input-Output Table

In view of full enforcement planned for January 2005 of a new law related to recycling of end-of-life vehicles (ELVs) in Japan, it is necessary to evaluate recycling-related material flows of ELVs. Therefore, a need exists for development of an automobile recycling input-output table (ARIOT) for Japan that describes recycling flows and the exports of vehicles, parts and materials in economic activities. Furthermore, their environmental loads bear on the framework of a Waste Input-Output Table (WIOT) developed by Nakamura et al. [1-4] . This paper examines the classification of goods and sectors for appropriate descriptions of material flows of ELV-related processes in Japan. We further examine an estimation of material flows in 1995 and consider the accuracy of that estimation method.
