Total joint replacement for rheumatoid arthritis was performed on 23 joints of 14 patients from 1977 to 1984 in our clinic; THR in 7 joints in 6 patients, TKR in 12 joints in 8 patients, TER in 3 joints in 2 patients, and TAR in 1 joint. Eight patients received multiple joint replacements, which were performed one after another (during a period of) 2 to 12 months. According to the follow-up study of these patients lasting from 2 to 85 months after the operation, there were no infections, no loosening and no revision cases. All the patients are satisfied with the results of their replacement surgery up to present. However, the follow-up study will have to be continued for a long time in future.
