Five cases of avulsion fracture of the tibial tuberosity.

Avulsion fracture of the tibial tuberosity occurs from various force with which contracting quadriceps muscle pulls on its insertion. Of course, the substance of the patellar ligament is not ruptured. For this reason, there are shape of insertion of patellar ligament, growth stage of tibial tuberosity, various speed of force. We found six knees in five patiens and we reviewed five knees in four cases by examining physically in our hospital or ques tionaire by telephone. Four cases are male and one case is female. There are four knees in right side and two in left. The age are from twelve to sixteen (average, fourteen). By Watson-Jones classification our cases are divided into three knees in type 1, one knee type 2, and two knees type 3. We showed our cases respectively. All cases underwent operation with screw, wire, and nylon. Genu recurvatum was found in one case but he had no disturbance of ADL.
