Roentgenographic Analysis of Perthes-like Change of the Femoral Head Following Derotational Varus Osteotomy for Congenital Dislocation of the Hip

Long-term roentgenographic review of 21 patients of congenital dislocation of the hip with 21 hips involved with Perthes-like change before and after treatment of derotational varus osteotomy was made. The higher the degree of Perthes-like change before the operation, the more severe resultant deformities of the proximal femur were noted. Derotational varus osteotomy had no significant effect on the natural course of the growth of the proximal femur. The patient with Perthes-like change who can get only less than 5 degrees of CE angle just after derotational varus osteotomy is not expected to get good congruency of the hip after growth. And even if he can get more than 5 degrees of CE angle, he can't always be expected to get good congruency of the hip after growth.
