Eighteen children with osteomyelitis of the metaphysis of the long bone were studied at the Fukuoka Children's Hospital from 1980 to 1988. Nine children presented deformity of the affected long bone following osteomyelitis. The deformity caused by the damage to the growth plate often proceeded with growth. In some cases, the deformities were produced by the epiphyseal necrosis and overgrowth of bones without the damage to the growth plate.
