MR Imaging of Experimental Spinal Cord injury in Rabbits: a Comparison with Histological Findings.

MR Imaging studies with a 1. OT were performed in the lumbar spine of rabbits after experimental spinal cord trauma. Spinal cords were injured severely (100g weight for 10min.) or mildly (50g weight for 90sec.) on L1-2. MR Imagings were taken, at 6hours, or 2 weeks after the trauma, and the spinal cords were histologically observed. We compared MR imaging with histological findings.In the injured site, low intensity area at T1 weighted images, and high intensity area at T2 weighted images were obsersed. These findings were more evident in severely injured cords than mildly injured cords at each following time.Histolosically, the changes of spinal cords at the area of low intensity at T1 weighted images were vidersified, so that the causes of changes of intensity were not proved. High intensity areas at T2 weighted images seemed to be reflexions of edema in the spinal cords.
