Six Cases with Stress Fracture of the Pubis.

We reported 6 patients with the stress fracture of the pubis, all of whom were female, ranging in age from 52 to 87 years with an average age of 70.7. In 4 cases multiple fractures of the pubis were noticed. We discussed two different types for the development of this fracture in these cases. In one type, the fracture occurred in 2 patients with 52 and 58 years. An antagonistic action of muscle groups to be induced from microtrauma on the pubis may have a great factor for the fracture. Another type was insufficiency fracture with osteoporosis. Synergic effect of the weakness of muscle power, the overmovement of sacroiliac joints and the reduction in elasticity of pelvic ring may be the cause of this type. Bone scintigraphy and CT were helpful in the diagnosis of stress fracture of the pubis.
