Fractures of trapeizium are very rare. We recently treated a patient who had a combined Bennett's fracture and fracture of the body of the trapezium. This was treated with open reduction and internal screw fixation. Seven months after the operation the patiant has no clinical symptoms, and no arthritic changes at the trapeziometacarpal joint radiologically.This combination of both fractures appeared to be caused by indirect impaction through the first metacarpal while limiting abduction of the thumb.We believe that when treating unstable articular fractures, it is necessary to use open reduction and firm internal fixation to get anatonical positions.
