Fracture of the Lateral Process of the Talus; Two Case Reports.

We report on two cases of fracture of the lateral process of the talus which is an uncommon lesion.Case 1: A 25 year-old male, who fell down from a height of one meter. Initial X-rays showed a talar neck fracture. CT examination and tomography showed a fracture of the lateral process of the talus. A large fragment demonstrated by CT scan, was fixed using a screw and Kirschner wire. The talar neck fracture was also fixed using a screw. At follow-up 2 years later, pain on movement and decreased range of motion persisted in the ankle.Case 2: A 25 year-old male who missed his footing on the stairs.Second X-rays showed a fracture of the lateral process of the talus. CT scans demonstrated displaced fractures in the subtalar joint. The fracture was repaired using two Kirschner wires. At follow-up 6 months after treatment, bone atrophy had progressed on the X-ray, and pain on movement and a decreased range of motion persisted in the ankle joint. We recommend that the patient has a CT examination and tomography for diagnosis in uncertain cases and for deciding on the best method of treatment.
