To get the best condition for pneumatic weft propulsion, the air velocity in a shed has been measured. The experiment has revealed the following :<BR> 1) The spread angle of air jet was . about 11 degrees. Thus the distance between the nozzle and the shed should be shorter than 15 cm in case of a 1-cm nozzle.<BR> 2) The air velocity in shed along the axis and at distance x from the nozzle was υf=υ0-18.3(x-5) (5d ≤ x ≤= 15d) υs=(υ0-183) e-0.0147x (15d ≤ x) <BR> where υ0 : air velocity at nozzle, in m/sec. <BR> d : nozzle diameter, in cm.<BR> 3) The pressure loss in the shed was about 38 times as large as that with the flow in triangular ducts.
