The fiber orientation of various slivers has been investigated by the continuous optical measuring apparatus previously referred to. Major results :
(1) Fiber orientation is improved as the process progresses, but the increment decreases gradually.
(2) The longer the fiber length, the better the fiber orientation.
(3) With cotton slivers, a periodic change of fiber orientation having a period of 68 cm is obtained. This is presumably due to the coiling of slivers in a can.
(4) With worsted slivers, fiber orientation is not improved much despite the tediously long process of worsted spinning.
(5) The results obtained with this apparatus agree well with other optically measured results. The Lindsley method also gives similar results, but in some cases the results turn out to be just the opposite if the fibers are of different kinds.
