A case of mandibular fracture treated with internal fixation by means of lag screws.

A 28-year-old man suffered a dislocated condylar neck fracture on the left side, and a wide lamellar fracture of the body of the mandible on the right side during an epilepsy seizure. The lamellar fracture was treated with internal fixation by means of 3 lag screws. During the follow-up periad of 7 months, there were no problems such as malocclusion, limitation of opening, TMJ-region pain, clicking sounds and deviated movement of the mandible.<BR>Lag screw osteosynthesis appears to be indicated for a wide lamellar fracture of the mandible, especially for cases combined with the fracture of the condyloid process. This method may be useful for other types of fractures. The location of the screw to neutralize tension force and the axis for screw osteosynthesis were discussed.
