Effective chemo-radiation therapy for giant squamous cell carcinoma of the buttocks

There are various causes for the onset of squamous cell carcinoma. The patient experienced giant squamous cell carcinoma of the buttocks after a long duration of chronic perianal pyoderma. A 48-year-old man had been experiencing chronic perianal pyoderma from when he was a junior high school student. A large tumor on his right buttock developed in June, 2005. When he visited our hospital, the tumor was 15×10 cm in diameter; histological examination revealed moderately well differentiated squamous cell carcinoma. No distant metastasis of the tumor was found in enhanced CT, but the bilateral inguinal lymph nodes were swollen. Radiation therapy (liniac electron beam 56Gy), cisplatin and 5-FU chemotherapy before resection were very successful in shrinking the tumor. It was then possible to perform a complete resection.
