Various types of vagotomy were undergone in 22 cases with peptic ulcer. Gastric secretion test and 75g oral glucose tolerance test were performed before and after vagotomy in each case. The results were obtained as follows.1) Before vagotomy, positive correlation between integrated incremental response of GIP and maximum acid output was shown significantly.2) In selective vagotomy with pyloroplasty (SV+P) group, GIP levels after vagotomy tended to be higher than preoperative levels.3) In selective vagotomy with anterectomy (SV+A) group, a discrepancy between GIP and insulin (IRI) secretion was found after vagotomy, which suggested the existence of the other insulinotropic hormones.4) GIP secretion of SV+P group tended to be higher than SV+A group, indicating the GIP secretion might be affected by the drainage procedures.5) GIP secretion of SV+P group tended to be higher than TV+P group, which suggested that vagal nerve, especially celiac branch played a role in GIP secretion.
