Secretion of C-reactive protein from human hepatoma cell lines.

Four human hepatoma cell lines (KIM-1, KYN-1, KYN-2, KMCH-1) established in our labolatory were studied about the secretion of C-reactive protein (CRP) and it's antigenic or structural differences from standard human plasma CRP. Two out of four hepatoma cell lines secrete CRP with no evidence of the existence of any inducers, such as IL-6, IL-1 and tumor necrosis factor (TNF). CRP is highly secreted at the late-logarythmic growth phase or the stationary phase in the growth cycle of KIM-1 cells. No obvious differences were detected between CRP secreted from these hepatoma cells and that of standard human plasma about antigenicity and molecular weight.<BR>This is the first report describing the secretion of CRP without cytokines from the cultured hepatoma cells. Further study should be necessary to know the mechanisms of the CRP secretion.
