In this research we are developing an X Band 9.41 GHz dual patch microstrip antenna for three dimensional weather radar (3D-WR). 3D-WR is introduced in order to increase the accuracy of weather forecast data acquisition previously done by two dimensional radar. This 3D-WR antenna is designed to be able to retrieve the distribution and characteristics of raindrops in three-dimensional position of targets in three direction (range, azimuth, and height), offering more information along with the additional dimension. The development process is divided into and steps: design, simulation, fabrication and measurement. Our target is to develop a the antenna with 6 degrees beamwidth in horizontal and vertical direction with 30 MHz bandwidth. First we designed a microstrip patch array antenna with two elements and then simulated it using Finite Element Method (FEM) to get optimum value of beamwidth, gain, input impedance and return loss. The simulation result then fabricated and measured in anechoic chamber using standard antenna and 50 GHz vector network analyzer.
