Due to various advantages offered by Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), these days, the demand for employing a SAR sensor onboard a small and low-cost satellite is highly increasing. This paper discusses the study of SAR sensor onboard a small satellite for both SAR sensor parameters and its power system. It is found that the use of short wavelength offers a better quality of SAR image. Also it is proposed to deploy SAR antenna in horizontal direction since an increase of antenna length is able to provide low power with a fine quality of SAR system. Finally, a good balance of resolution, antenna length, transmitted peak power, duty cycle and noise equivalent radar cross section should be considered in SAR system design.
