Use of multimode fibers to receive the light emitted from a satellite after passing through atmosphere is studied to design a simplified optical ground station. The angular error in the propagation direction of the beacon beam emitted from the ground station is estimated with taking the beam wander effect into the consideration. Besides, the point-ahead angle required in the beacon emission direction is also counted in the angular error to illuminate the satellite for the case that no point-ahead angle is given to the beacon. Assuming that the satellite transmits the signal beam in the ideal direction to expose the ground station, the requirement in the diameter of an optical fiber to couple the received communication beam is estimated.
