The effect of wavefront compensation in beam transmission is estimated for satellite-ground laser communications, where the transmitted wavefront is formed as the phase conjugated wavefront of the downlink beam. The performance of the compensation is studied with a combination of the isoplanatic angle, the atmospheric coherence length and the point-ahead angle. The results of the numerical analysis show that the effect of the wavefront compensation is degraded due to the point-ahead angle added to the transmission direction of the uplink beam. Besides, the dependence of the wavefront compensation effect on the aperture diameter of transmitter is analyzed. The results contribute to consider whether the wavefront compensation techniques such as the adaptive optics or the phase conjugation would be introduced to the optical ground station.
