An ethanol extract prepared from the fruits of Evodia mtaecarpa (Rutaceae) showed a significant cytotoxic activity on Chinese hamster lung cells (V-79). The active principle was identified as (+)-evodiamine and its IC_<50> values against V-79, human nasopharynx carcinoma (KB) and P388 lymphocytic leukemia cells were 0.19, 0.98 and 0.43 fig/ml, respectively.
