From an ethereal extract of Atraphaxis spinosa L. var. sinaica BOISS. (Polygonaceae), nine compounds were isolated and identified as N-trans-p-coumaroyl-3', 4'-dihydroxyphenylethylamine (1), N-trans-feruloyl-3', 4'-dihydroxyphenylethylamine (2), (-)-fisetinidol (3), (-)-catechin (4),butin (5), quercetin (6), quercetin-3-methyl ether (7), 5-deoxykaempferol (8) and β-sitosterol glucoside (9). Compounds 1 and 2 were isolated from natural sources for the first time and were shown to have a cytotoxic activity on leukemic P388 cells.
