Studies on Chinese Traditional Medicine "Fang-Feng" (I) : Structures and Physiological Activities of Polyacetylene Compounds from Saposhnikoviae Radix

Three polyacetylene compounds (1-3) were newly isolated from Saposhnikoviae radix (fang-feng, root of Saposhnikovia divaricata Schischk., Umbelliferae). Compounds 1-3 were characterized as (9Z)-heptadeca-1,9-dien-4,6-diyn-3,8-diol (falcarindiol), (8E)-heptadeca-1,8-dien-4,6-diyn-3,10-diol and (9Z)-heptadeca-1,9-dien-4,6-diyn-3-ol (panaxynol; falcarinol) on the basis of their spectral data. Further, the effects of compounds 1-3 on arachidonate metabolism in human platelets were examined, and it was found that these compounds inhibited the formation of HHT and thromboxane B_2.
